Mohammed Buba Marwa

Retired soldier, administrator, businessman and politician, Mohammed Buba Marwa was 62 on September 9.

He was educated at the Nigerian Military School, Zaria; Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna; Armour School, Pakistan; Nigerian Army Signal School, Apapa; Command and Staff College, Jaji and the University of Pittsburgh; Harvard Univeristy, USA.

Marwa was at various times the aide-de-camp (ADC) to General Theophilus Danjuma when the latter was Chief of Army Staff, military governor of Borno State (1990) and later, defence adviser to the Nigerian Permanent Mission at the UN headquarters in New York. He was military governor of Lagos State, 1996-1998. A former director of the defunct Albarka Airline, he contested the governorship election in Adamawa State on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, in 2012.

The former Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa, Marwa hails from Michika local government area of Adamawa state. A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party following disagreements in his Adamawa hometown over the selection of Jubrilla Bindow for the governorship election in the state.
